About this work
A small white minivan follows a puddled dirt track winding through a valley between dark, rounded hills, its headlights casting a bright pool on the wet ruts. Overhead, a heavy bank of grey-black storm clouds presses down against a narrow strip of clear blue sky.
Deep indigo, teal and cobalt tones dominate, applied in loose, textured strokes, while the clouds are built up in thick grey-brown impasto. Warm white highlights mark the headlights and the glistening track, the only warmth in an otherwise cool palette, giving the empty landscape a quiet, mysterious tension.
