About this work
An open white door reveals a dim hallway beyond, a soft shadow cast across its inner panel suggesting someone just out of sight. Beside the doorway stands a tall cylindrical tiled stove, blackened at the top, with a slender iron poker resting against its base and a framed picture hanging above.
Cool whites and greys make up most of the surface, broken by the stove's deep charcoal-black body and a strip of warm floorboards below. Soft, even light and smooth handling give the room an almost held-breath stillness, the ambiguous shadow on the door lending the empty interior a quietly unsettling sense of presence.
