About this work

In a warm, cluttered dressing room, two young ballerinas in pale pink-and-cream tutus and pointe shoes stand close together, one resting a hand on the other's arm. Behind them a dancer in a grey-blue practice dress stands with her back turned, while in the right foreground a figure in a dark bodice with a wide ruffled blue-brown skirt looks on. In front, a seated woman in a flowing red dress raises a hand near her face, observing the group.

The palette moves between warm rust and ochre backdrops and the cool pale pink and white of the tutus, anchored by the strong red of the seated figure. Brushwork is loose and energetic, with visible strokes describing fabric folds and stage light bouncing off skin and tulle, giving the scene an intimate, unposed backstage atmosphere.
