About this work

A large clear glass bottle holding a small mound of pale sand sits centered on a green paisley-patterned cloth, in front of a rusty iron bar mounted on the wall. From the bar hang two curved metal hooks, a small dark weight, and a length of red ribbon, while a smaller teal glass bottle lies tipped on its side nearby.

Rendered in a controlled realist manner with close attention to the transparency and reflections of the glass, the muted grey wall and rusted metal contrast sharply with the saturated red ribbon and the vividly patterned cloth below. The hooks and hanging weight beside the bottle suggest an implied tension, giving the still life a quietly enigmatic charge.
