About this work
A gaunt, heavily lined face fills the sheet, narrowed eyes staring straight out while two fingers pinch a double-edged razor blade just below the nose. Balanced on the blade's teeth, a miniature couple in orange-red clothing embraces in a tango step, wildly out of scale with the monumental head that surrounds them.
Rendered almost entirely in graphite-grey pastel and charcoal, the drawing builds the face through dense cross-hatching and soft smudged shading, leaving only the tiny dancers picked out in warm red-orange. The scale collision between the towering portrait and the microscopic figures gives the sheet a tense, watchful, faintly menacing mood.
