About this work
A richly carved baroque church facade fills most of the canvas, its triangular pediment, oculus window, and pilastered doorway rendered in broad dabs of paint. Below, a scattering of small dark and colored figures cross the square in front of the entrance, giving scale to the towering stonework.
The palette is dominated by dusty pink, powder blue, and off-white, with touches of grey shadow describing the building's ornament without hard outlines. Loose, broken brushwork and softened edges dissolve architectural detail into light and atmosphere, giving the scene a hazy, tranquil, sun-warmed calm.
