About this work
A wide sunlit meadow occupies most of the composition, its grass laid in pale, sweeping swaths that suggest recent mowing. A gabled cottage with a dark roof and pale blue-shuttered windows sits half-screened by a dense stand of trees at the back of the clearing, with a slim birch rising at the right edge and flowering shrubs filling the foreground. No figures appear in the scene.
Bright greens and golds dominate the palette, built up with loose, energetic brushstrokes that catch the play of sunlight across the grass and foliage. Dappled highlights and cool shadow patches give the field a shimmering, breezy quality typical of plein-air impressionist landscape painting, evoking a quiet, warm summer day.
