About this work
Two women in profile, eyes closed and hands folded in prayer, face each other across a cross-shaped trellis of pink roses thick with small perched birds. Each corner holds a separate stained-glass scene: Christ's baptism, the Last Supper, a mounted warrior, and a lamentation.
A pale, scumbled ground sets off warm flesh tones and coral pink roses, while the corner scenes burst into saturated reds, blues and gold. Fine contour drawing renders every petal and feather with graphic precision, giving the whole an icon-like, devotional hush.
