About this work
A hairless, gnome-like nude figure sits with a large round tray balanced on its distended stomach, hands pressed to its sides as a wolf-like beast snarls in from the left. Above, filling most of the upper half, a giant cutaway of a throat and stomach curves down like an open pipe, with a small solitary figure walking along a distant horizon beneath it.
Dense cross-hatching in black ink builds every surface from the wrinkled belly to the fibrous throat, giving the print a hard, engraved texture and no colour beyond stark white and black. The exaggerated anatomy and disquieting juxtaposition of body and beast create an unsettling, almost caricatural image of appetite and excess.
