About this work
A tall stone fortress tower with narrow slit windows and a peaked, weathered roof occupies the right side of the composition, its corner catching the light against a partly clouded blue sky. Dark green trees stand to the left, and a grassy foreground slope leads up to the base of the wall.
The stonework is built from small, varied dabs of grey, ochre and rose suggesting individual blocks without over-detailing them, while the sky is worked in soft, blended strokes of blue and white. The overall effect is bright and airy, a plein-air study of an old fortification on a calm day.
