About this work
Seen from a high vantage point, an orange gabled roof and chimney stand in the foreground right among a jumble of other rooftops, dormers and courtyard walls. Beyond them a wide river opens up, with more buildings visible faintly along its far bank.
Warm ochre and orange in the near roof play against cool blue-grey tones across the rest of the rooftops, under a softly glowing golden sky. Loose, blended brushwork dissolves distant forms into haze, giving the overlook a hushed, dreamy calm.
