About this work
A dense bouquet of garden flowers fills most of the canvas, arranged in a plain white vase set on a pale tabletop. Blossoms in deep pink, magenta, violet, white and touches of yellow crowd together, with only a hint of green foliage showing beneath.
The flowers are built from thick, rapid strokes and dabs of paint applied wet-into-wet, with little detail beyond broad patches of color standing in for individual petals. The neutral warm-gray background sets off the vivid bouquet, giving the still life an energetic, spontaneous feel.
