About this work
A nude male figure stands at left resting a hand on a low altar-like slab, a horned bull or ox with a densely patterned hide occupies the center, and a nude woman wrapped in a decorated skirt stands at right; the ground between them is scattered with small fish and birds, and the banner across the top reads 'EX-LIBRIS OLEG YAKHNIN'.
Etched in dense stippled black on a mottled ground, the print sets pale, smoothly modeled figures against the bull's richly textured, ornamented coat. The mythic, ritual grouping of nude figures and beast, scattered with small creatures, gives the bookplate a solemn, archaic mystery.
