About this work
A soft, cushion-bodied figure reclines across a rooftop, head tilted back and eyes shut, plucking a long-necked stringed instrument with both hands. Factory chimneys, gabled roofs and tenement windows crowd the skyline behind, rendered in the same rounded, quilted shapes as the figure's own body.
Warm reds, ochres and dusty pinks dominate the canvas, unified by soft, blended modeling that blurs the line between the figure and its urban surroundings. The closed eyes and unhurried pose suggest a solitary moment of rest and music at day's end.
