About this work
A wide city avenue is bordered by tall pale stone apartment houses and rows of trees just coming into leaf. Cars line the curb and one crosses the foreground while a handful of pedestrians and a cyclist move along the sidewalk near an ornate lamppost.
Cool blue sky and pale walls are warmed by low spring sunlight, casting soft violet shadows across the pavement. Quick, broken brushstrokes render the new foliage and reflective car bodies, giving the street a fresh, breezy immediacy typical of plein air painting.
