About this work
Seen in profile, a woman tilts her head back with eyes closed, her bare shoulder, neck and upper chest turned into soft light. Pale drapery gathers loosely around her hips, and a curling scrolled form stands at her side.
The palette is dominated by slate and dove-grey with warm flesh tones breaking through at the face, neck and shoulder. Thick, gestural strokes and dragged palette-knife marks build a heavily textured surface, giving the reclining figure a hazy, half-dreaming stillness.
