About this work
A dog sits upright on top of a dry-stone wall, silhouetted beneath overhanging tree branches, looking out over a rural yard. Below, the wall's stones are picked out in fine incised lines, and a barn with a plank door, a small window, and overhead wires fills the lower half of the composition.
Worked entirely in scratched line over a dark, inked ground, the image builds texture through countless fine white incisions against warm sepia and amber, giving stone, wood, and fur their own distinct patterning. The graphic contrast of dark and light lends the quiet scene a still, watchful, slightly mysterious mood.
