About this work

A pale nude body plunges diagonally across the canvas, one arm flung overhead and the other reaching toward a curved pair of ochre horns lying at the lower edge — the remains of a bull or minotaur. Behind the falling figure a row of red-painted columns lines a raised terrace under a deep teal sky, while a ghostly pale silhouette stands watch at the left edge of the scene.

Thick, dry strokes of ochre and rose model the falling body against slabs of teal, black and brick red, with the columns rendered in loose, dripping vertical marks. The contrast of hot red architecture and cold blue-green shadow, combined with the twisted, off-balance pose, produces a charged, unsettled atmosphere of collapse.
