About this work
Two or three split pomegranates rest loosely on a tabletop, their seeds showing as small clusters of red, orange and green; a rounded vessel is suggested at upper left, its form dissolved almost entirely into blurred passages of paint rather than defined contours.
Worked in heavy impasto, the palette stays close to dusty pink, beige and grey, with sparks of crimson and ochre marking the fruit. Thick knife strokes build a tactile, ridged surface caught by soft raking light, giving the still life a hazy, muted, contemplative quiet.
