About this work
A crowd of circus performers fills the canvas: two clowns in ruffled collars, a top-hatted ringmaster with a small costumed figure, a bare-chested strongman with a crow on his shoulder, a woman in a white tutu holding a hoop, and a harlequin boy beside a striped zebra. Girls in bonnets with a doll and puppy, a small dog, and an elephant's head complete the group, with a vintage camera on a tripod among them.
Muted grays, ochres, and dusty pinks cover the heavy, cracked, plaster-like surface, giving each face a weathered, mask-like stillness. Light falls unevenly across the group, isolating faces from the murky backdrop. The crowding of figures, animals, and props gives the scene a hushed, faintly unsettling mood.
