About this work

A tall bell tower and a domed church with green cupolas form a low white complex set into a hillside. Three small robed figures climb a snow-streaked path toward a lit green doorway, flanked by two bare trees still holding orange-red autumn leaves.

Thick impasto strokes swirl across the sky in deep navy and black flecked with white, echoing the turbulence of a snow squall, while warm ochre and cream model the sunlit walls below. The heavily textured, expressive brushwork gives the scene a charged, mysterious nocturnal atmosphere.
