About this work
A wide-eyed bearded man's face fills the center of the canvas, flanked by two monstrous heads, one feathered and beaked, the other fanged and horned. Their forms merge into gnarled, veined hands gripping a stone ledge below, so the three appear fused into one hybrid being staring straight out.
Modeled in earthy greys, ochres and flesh tones against a deep red field, the paint is built up in thick, textured layers emphasizing wrinkled skin, feathers and fur. Stark frontal lighting and the surreal fusion of human and monstrous features create a tense, unsettling presence.
