About this work
A man's face with wide, staring eyes, a beard and windswept hair merges with the head of a horned, beaked creature emerging from his temple. A gnarled hand with elongated fingers reaches across the composition, its knuckles echoing a second staring eye in the tangle of forms. The two heads and hand interlock so that flesh, fur and claw become hard to separate.
Built from dense pencil hatching and stippling, the drawing spans a wide tonal range from near-black shadow to bare paper. Fine parallel lines model the skin's wrinkles and the creature's scaled ridges with obsessive precision, while looser strokes describe the hair. The effect is unsettling and hallucinatory, a tightly controlled rendering of man and beast fused together.
