About this work
Seen from behind, a centaur's horse body and human torso are compressed into a single sculptural mass: the pale hindquarters and legs occupy the lower half, while a fragmented torso and raised arm rise at the top, blurring into drips and foam-like flourishes. A blue, wave-like tail curls at the left, echoing the flat cobalt background that surrounds the whole figure.
The acrylic is built up in thick, cracked relief over an ivory ground, so the pale flesh tones sit in raised texture against the smooth, saturated blue field. Loose spatter and dripping paint stand in for hair, mane and foam, giving the hybrid figure a fluid, dreamlike sense of motion.
