About this work
In a panoramic landscape, a cloaked figure in orange holding a scythe leans from a white panel at left, a pale nude woman with red hair stands rigid like a statue at center, and a green-robed bald man reaches toward her from the right amid a row of slender trees. A blue running dog, a fluffy red dog, and small distant figures with a horse populate the foreground, beside a carved stone slab bearing handwritten Russian text.
Bright, flat color blocks, orange, green, blue, and red, sit against a soft grey-green landscape, with each figure rendered in a smooth, stylized, almost heraldic manner. The mix of folkloric text, allegorical figures, and running animals gives the composition a lively, satirical energy.
