About this work
A large foreground figure in a white shirt and jeans strides or stands over a second man who lies twisted on the ground, one arm raised as if warding off a blow. Behind them a skyline of half-ruined towers and cranes recedes under swirling storm clouds, with a small red passenger plane crossing the upper sky.
Charcoal grays and blacks dominate, broken by the sharp white of the standing figure's shirt and warm flesh tones on the fallen man's bare foot and hand. Turbulent, wind-blown brushwork in the clouds contrasts with tightly modeled anatomy, building a tense, foreboding mood around an act of violence.
