About this work
A dark-haired young man in a loose blue sweater turns upward, one arm raised gripping a slingshot whose cord angles into a mass of birds rendered as jagged, flame-colored feathers pouring down from the top of the canvas. His chin lifts and his eyes track the flock diving toward him against a gradient sky, with low mountain ridges along the bottom edge.
The birds are painted in hot oranges and reds in loose, feathered strokes that read almost like fire, against the smooth cool blues of the sweater and sky. Directional light sharpens the face and raised arm against the soft dusk gradient. The contrast of warm flock against cool figure creates a tense, charged standoff.
