About this work
Seven boys are shown bathing beside a wooden pier: one in front plays a wind pipe, another sits on the dock's edge dipping his feet, and others in the middle distance toss a badminton racket and shuttlecock or climb onto the planks. Reeds and wildflowers line the water's edge, with ripples spreading around the boys' legs in the shallows.
A near-monochrome blue palette covers the scene, from water to skin to sky, broken only by patches of green foliage and pink wildflowers at lower left. Forms are modeled with soft, blended light rather than sharp outlines, giving the figures a hazy, dreamlike quality. The cool, uniform tone and quiet poses create a calm, drowsy summer atmosphere.
