About this work
Two old wooden fishing boats sit beached on wet sand, their peeling hulls streaked with rust and faded paint, each fitted with a wooden derrick-like mast and small cabin. A third boat's green bow edges into the frame at right. Between the boats a shallow puddle of water mirrors their reflections, and a coiled rope with a wooden post lies in the foreground sand.
Muted browns, greys, and weathered greens describe the worn hulls against a pale sandy shore and soft white clouds. Gentle, even daylight and loose, textured brushwork capture the boats' rust and decay in careful detail, giving the scene a quiet, faintly melancholic calm.
