About this work

Three or four boats of different sizes are hauled out of the water and propped on wooden blocks and a multi-wheeled trailer, their hulls streaked with rust and chipped paint. A small wheelhouse with a ladder tops the leftmost boat, while masts and railings rise against a bare, undefined sky.

Loose, energetic pastel strokes in rust orange, teal, and cobalt blue build up the hulls' weathered surfaces, with white and yellow highlights catching the metal's sheen. The sketch-like handling, visible paper tooth, and quick diagonal shading give the scene an immediate, plein-air freshness despite the boats' worn, grounded state.
