About this work
Tall trees in full autumn color rise along the near shore of a calm pond, their crowns a blend of gold, orange, and deep green. A slender birch trunk breaks through the canopy at center, and small pale animals, possibly sheep, graze along the grassy bank beside the water.
Dense dabs of yellow and ochre build the foliage with an almost pointillist texture, while the sky and water are laid in smoother strokes. The colored canopy repeats in reflection across the pond's amber surface, giving the sunlit scene a warm, tranquil stillness.
