About this work
A night view of a shop or club entrance: a rounded doorway framed by a looping garland of yellow, green and red balloons leads into a dark interior dotted with small colored lights. To the left a lit yellow window displays a round object beside a partly visible sign reading "...РЫ", and a sandwich-board sign stands in the foreground near the threshold.
The scene is built from broad, loose strokes of ochre, black and cobalt, with pools of yellow light picking out the window, balloons and doorway against deep shadow. Thickly applied paint and visible drips give the surfaces a worn, urban texture, while the contrast of glowing color against near-black creates a hushed, slightly enigmatic nocturnal mood.
