About this work
Two mountain summits, one sharply pointed and one broader, rise pale blue against a wide sky, dominating the upper two-thirds of the composition. Below, a flat plain stretches out with a dirt track, scattered low bushes, small trees, and patches of purple wildflowers leading the eye toward the mountain's base.
The sky is built in soft horizontal bands of green, apricot and rose, with wisps of golden-edged cloud catching the light of dusk. The mountains are painted in cool, hazy violet-blue that fades toward their base, while the foreground uses looser, textured strokes in ochre and green, producing a tranquil, dreamlike sense of open space.
