About this work
A cluster of round apples hangs from a leafy branch that arches across the upper part of the canvas, their forms emerging from dense foliage rendered in dabs and smears. Below the fruit a few thin dried stems and a curled leaf hang loose, adding a note of textured detail to the composition.
Warm ochres, olive greens and touches of pink and white are built up with thick, buttery impasto, the palette knife leaving ridged, tactile marks across the surface. Soft diffused light models the rounded fruit gently, giving the still life a mellow, golden, quietly abundant feel.
