About this work
A crowded, vertical composition stacks overlapping human and hybrid heads - bearded men, a skull, wide staring eyes, animal-like snouts - crammed together at the top beneath a large grasshopper perched on the frame's edge. Below, tangled hands reach and grasp among several nude figures, one stretched across a bare rectangular frame at the bottom of the sheet.
The entire scene is built from dense, fine cross-hatching and stippling in black ink, with no color, giving every surface - skin, hair, bone, insect wings - the same feverish, obsessive texture. Faces and bodies dissolve into one another without clear spatial separation, producing a claustrophobic, unsettling swarm of imagery.
