About this work
Tall bare-branched trees arch over a curving park path, framing a distant view of St. Isaac's Cathedral's colonnaded drum and dome rising above rooftops. A wrought-iron lamppost stands mid-path, and small figures stroll along the walkway past low hedges and patches of dried grass.
The scene is painted in soft lavender-grays, ochre and muted greens, with loose, broken brushstrokes that dissolve the architecture into a soft haze. Diffused, even light suggests an overcast day, and the quick plein-air handling gives the park a quiet, unhurried atmosphere.
