About this work
Three square panels each show an identical muscular, bare-chested male torso with hands clasped between the knees, but a different head: a red bull's head with curved horns, a polished medieval knight's helmet, and a reflective astronaut's space helmet. Each figure is centered against a flat, saturated background of red, grey-blue and yellow respectively.
Anatomical modeling of the torsos is rendered with realist precision, in warm flesh tones and defined musculature, while each ground color is applied in a flat, even wash that isolates the figure like an icon. The substitution of bull, armor and space helmet for a human head gives the triptych an unsettling, symbolic charge.
