About this work
The view climbs from foreground rooftops up toward a golden dome and a dark bell tower, with colonnades, arched windows and a stepped terrace sketched in pencil beneath the paint. A tiny dark figure stands on a lower ledge, giving scale to the tumble of flat-roofed buildings that recede toward the domes.
Warm cream and ochre dominate, lit by patches of mustard yellow on the dome and a scatter of green-black shadow around the tower, all built up with dry, scraped pastel strokes over thinly worked acrylic. Pentimenti and half-hidden lines show through the surface, giving the hazy, sunlit scene a dreamy, half-remembered feel.
