About this work
Rows of townhouses and rooftops recede beneath a pale, overcast sky, their facades broken into patches of ochre, blue-grey and pink. In the foreground a band of yellow-green foliage frames a street where a few small dark figures walk, suggesting a view down over a quarter of the city.
The palette stays soft and chalky, built from broken, dragged strokes that blur architectural detail into atmosphere. Light is diffuse and even, with no strong shadows, so the surface reads as a misty haze. The loose, textured handling and muted harmonies create a dreamy, unhurried impression of an ordinary city corner.
