About this work
Flat, simplified shapes suggest a boat: a wedge of red watermelon and a curved yellow melon slice sit side by side like a hull, while a folded, diamond-checkered triangular form rises above them like a sail, with a small dark fruit at its base. The background is a solid deep blue field, bordered below by a tiled brown mosaic strip.
Colour is bold and flat - saturated red, ochre-yellow and cobalt blue in broad unmodulated areas, with the sail's checkerboard pattern the only busy texture. The style is decorative and graphic, treating fruit and boat as interchangeable simplified forms, playful and bright rather than naturalistic.
