About this work
A narrow, barrel-vaulted corridor stretches into deep perspective, lit by a row of tall windows along one wall. Dozens of wooden easels, folding stools, and drawing boards are stacked against the opposite wall, while a single figure walks away toward the far end of the hall.
Warm ochre and brown tones of aged wood and plaster fill the frame, daylight from the windows creating alternating bright and shadowed bays down its length. The repeated arches and stacked easels give the photograph a quiet, workmanlike rhythm.
