About this work
Two whole mandarins and a partly peeled one, its segments separated and its rind curling away, are grouped on a rough blue drape, with a couple of loose wedges scattered in the foreground and bare canvas showing at the edges of the cloth.
A bold complementary scheme of cobalt blue against warm orange dominates the canvas, applied in loose, confident strokes that leave visible brush texture and patches of raw fabric at the corners. Even, bright light picks out white highlights on the fruit skins, giving the small study an energetic, vibrant color-focused mood.
