About this work
Irregular rectangular fields suggest a collage of surfaces: a tall cream-white, plaster-like panel runs down the center, flanked on the left by a deep blue block with diagonal brush marks and a cluster of overlapping ring shapes. To the right, a smooth black panel meets a heavily ridged royal-blue field and a rough gold-textured rectangle, with a smaller red-gold square in the lower left corner.
Built up in thick, uneven layers, the surface mixes smooth troweled passages with coarse impasto, so light catches the ridges of blue and gold unevenly. The palette stays close to blue, black, cream and ochre-gold, and the hard-edged joins between fields give the composition a fragmented, wall-like structure rather than a legible scene.
