About this work
A nearly bare cream ground carries a cluster of dark vertical strokes suggesting thin trunks or reeds standing in a loose row at center right, above softly rounded brown-grey shapes gathered along the bottom edge. Rows of cursive handwriting and small scratched marks run across the top of the canvas, with a monogram in the upper right corner.
The palette stays close to unbleached linen, warm beige, and soft grey, with only the vertical marks and lower forms rendered in deeper brown and black. Dry, scraped brushwork leaves the canvas texture visible throughout, and the sparse, upright strokes against the open field give the composition a quiet, wintry stillness recalling a stand of bare trees.
