About this work
A nude woman is viewed from behind and slightly to the side, seated with head bowed and shoulder blades and spine visible. Her hair flows down mixed with a dense cascade of teal, orange, red, and cream flowers running from the crown of her head along one side down past her hip.
Set against an almost black-brown ground, the sunlit ochre and cream body is built with very thick, sculptural palette-knife impasto, while the flowers are laid in with jabs of saturated color. The stark dark-light contrast and dense texture give the picture a bold, intense presence.
