About this work
A footed compote bowl glazed in streaks of blue, ochre, and rust sits at the center of a table draped in pale cream cloth, its stem reflected in a faint blue shadow. Three plain white glass goblets stand in a row before it, evenly spaced and lit from the front, against a bare grey wall.
Muted greys and creams dominate, so the bowl's saturated blue and rust glaze reads as the single note of color in the composition. Paint is applied thinly and smoothly on the cloth and wall, then thickened into loaded, textured strokes on the bowl itself. The restrained tonal range and quiet, even light give the still life a hushed, contemplative calm.
