About this work
Two women work at a large upright loom, their faces and dark headscarves half-hidden behind the dense vertical warp threads strung across the frame. Below the loom, bands of the finished carpet are visible in deep red, cream, teal, and navy, curving gently across the width of the canvas. A richly patterned reddish wall or hanging fills the background above the wooden loom frame.
The surface is worked in fine, thread-like strokes echoing woven fabric, blurring the weavers into the pattern they create. Warm rust and ochre tones dominate, broken by cool stripes of finished cloth, producing a densely textured surface that equates the act of weaving with the act of painting.
