About this work
Two nude figures are wrapped tightly around each other, seated or crouched on a rocky outcrop, their bodies merged into a single mound-like form outlined in dark red-brown contour lines. Around them stretches a bare, wind-swept expanse of grey and lavender, with faint pale shapes at the horizon suggesting small boats far out on the water.
The palette is muted and cool, dominated by grey, slate blue, and ochre, with the embracing bodies picked out in warmer pink and cream against the flat, scumbled background. Rough, dragged brushwork and a heavy dark outline give the huddled pair a raw, elemental weight, evoking exposure to bleak, changeable weather.
