About this work

A young boy stands playing the violin, his bow arm raised and fingers pressed to the strings, looking directly out at the viewer with a calm, focused expression. He wears a full white peasant-style shirt gathered at the wrists and a wide crimson sash knotted at the waist, its ends hanging loose.

The neutral warm-grey background is worked in loose, visible strokes that set off the crisp white of the shirt and the single note of deep red at the waist. Skin and fabric are modeled with confident academic brushwork and soft light, giving the boy a quiet, dignified presence.
