About this work
A nude woman stands in profile, her elongated neck, torso and limbs simplified into smooth, sculptural curves. Her arms cross loosely in front of her body and her head tilts down; behind her, on a dark rectangle of wall, a painted or mirrored face with dark hair looks out toward the viewer.
Deep maroon and burgundy dominate the backdrop, set against a burnt-orange floor scattered with loose flecks of blue and red paint. The nude figure is built from soft ivory and blush tones with thin blue contour lines marking the joints, the elongation and flattened planes recalling stylized modern nudes. Brushwork is fluid and confident, giving the scene a warm, hushed intimacy.
